Electric Clothing Dryer

The advantage to owning an old model dryer like this one is that the dryer will last a very long time, it is easy to service, and parts are still available.

There is no complex computer microprocessor, cluttered censors, tight fitting poorly made pieces, and plastic easily breakable parts such as you will find in new dryers. This old GE is full of metal, has a simple design, and there just aren't that many parts that can fail. However, we won't discuss energy efficiency nor will we discuss delicate synthetic fabrics.

Identification

The model for most dryers is located inside the door, open the door and look at the top sticker. See example:

Replace Belt

Unplug from electrical power

Take note of and disconnect five total wire connectors from the door panel near the top.

Remove the entire front panel by removing two hex screws on the top and lifting the panel.

Do not pull too far away from dryer because there are still wires connected below the door, simply turn sideways and lean next to dryer as not to damage wires still connected.

Reach arm into bottom through opening on bottom right to service belt which goes though motor and tension pullys. These are near back opposite opening. Operation of belt service can mostly be performed by feel. .

Door Wiring

You have to remove the front panel which is the entire front piece including the door in order to perform service tasks like belt replacement.

If you neglect to take note of the wiring that you disconnect, here is a picture showing the correct door wiring.
