A domain name registrar provides the service of allowing to to buy your own Internet domain name. A domain name registrar must be accredited and recognized by the ICANN organization. A company called Network Solutions once provided all domain name registration services for all domain names ending in .com .net and .org prior to 1999. Due to a legal battle that lasted a few years the Network Solutions monopoly was ended and customers were given the choice of many new domain name registration services known as Registrars. Prices dramatically decreased for the registration of a domain name.
When a registrar registers a com domain name for an end-user, it must pay a maximum annual fee of $7.85 to VeriSign (aka Network Solutions), the registry operator for com, and a $0.18 annual administration fee to ICANN. Most domain registrars price their services and products to address both the annual fees and the administration fees that must be paid to ICANN.
ICANN is the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. It is supposed to be a not for profit entity that is a neutral governing body over the Internet business of domain name registration. ICANN mostly deals with the Internet global Domain Name System, including policy development for internationalization of the DNS system, introduction of new generic top-level domains (TLDs), and the operation of root name servers. ICANN is in all actuality just a tool for companies to manipulate in order to increase profit, such as the introduction of unenforceable policies that unscrupulous registrars use to extort money from their customers (see WhoisGuard.)
NameSilo is a domain name registration service that is very competitive (less than $10 to register a .com domain name) and they do not use the NameGuard scam to extort money from their customers. They do provide the WhoisGuard service as to be compatible with other registrar's for the sake of customer clarity, however, it is included as part of the domain name registration.
NameSilo does not use WhoisGuard as an excuse to extort more money from customers. They just provide it free.
NameSilo also provides free DNS, full A record, CNAME, and MX record DNS services at no additional fee.
NameSilo is not a reseller, they are a true TLD registrar.
NameSilo has actual telephone customer support.
