The IWI X95 is an Israeli bullpup rifle designed and produced by Israel Weapon Industries as part of the Tavor rifle family, along with the TAR-21 and the Tavor 7. IWI US offers the rifle in semi-automatic only configuration. The 5.56 version is a gas-operated, rotating bolt, piston-driven rifle, feeding through STANAG magazines. A straight-blowback pistol caliber version exists that comes with a 17" barrel and feeds through Colt/UZI magazines.

New Features on the X95 XB16

  • The new X95 now features an “M16” style Mag Release Button instead of the old SAR switch which made magazine changes unacceptably more difficult and time consuming.
  • Shooters now have the ability to change out their pistol grip according to their personal preference simply by unscrewing the screw on the bottom of the pistol grip
  • Relocation of the charging handle that is closer to the shooters center of mass
  • Lower profile bolt release and enhanced rear receiver
  • A forearm tactical rail system to accommodate accessories such as a flashlight
  • And finally, a lighter trigger system (5-6 lbs.)

The X95 can be converted in minutes from 5.56mmx45mm caliber to 9mmx19mm caliber to 5.45mmx39mm caliber and vice versa. (.223 Remington, .300 AAC Blackout, 9mm Parabellum)

According to IWI, as of Spring 2020 all 5.56mm X95 rifles are equipped with the .300BLK recoil mechanism as customers have discussed here.

Tactical rails are of the type MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny.

The X95 feeds through STANAG 4179 compliant AR-15 type magazines

The Tavor X95 takes AR15 style magazines, and while most of them will work in the rifle, there are differing degrees of compatibility. In testing it was discovered that some of the aftermarket mags would not lock into the receiver correctly. When tested with Colt manufactured metallic magazines, one marked AR-15 and another with only the 5.56 designation, they locked into the receiver but were loose and had noticeable play. It is said that some specific brands that seem to work best are ASC, Magpul and Lancer.

IWI recommends the Black Magpul PMAG Gen. M3 30 Round magazine for the 5.56 X95 as listed on their web site. Magpul offers a 40 round magazine, PMAG® 40 AR/M4 GEN M3 These Magpul PMAG M3 Magazines advertised for the AR-15 work with the new 300 AAC Blackout ammo as well as 223 Remington, 5.56x45mm. They are the correct magazines for this rifle unless you have the 9mm version.
