You may start to experience occasional blue screen errors in Windows or occasional drive errors.  Eventually the system will fail to boot entirely or fail to recognize any connected SATA drive.  The system will boot from USB or CDROM bootable media.  This is because the SATA controller is no longer able to reliably communicate with the connected drive.  The SATA controller eventually fails to recognize any attached SATA drive.
