TightVNC

TightVNC is a free remote control software package derived from the popular VNC software. With TightVNC, you can see the desktop of a remote machine and control it with your local mouse and keyboard, just like you would do it sitting in the front of that computer.

Does not support Windows Vista.

RealVNC

  • Commercial Software/Pay Software
  • Limited Free Shareware version available
  • Pay version supports Windows Vista
  • Windows XP + Linux Support
  • WEB SITE

VNC stands for Virtual Network Computing. It is remote control software which allows you to view and fully interact with one computer desktop (the "VNC server") using a simple program (the "VNC viewer") on another computer desktop anywhere on the Internet. The two computers don't even have to be the same type, so for example you can use VNC to view a Windows Vista desktop at the office on a Linux or Mac computer at home. For ultimate simplicity, there is even a Java viewer, so that any desktop can be controlled remotely from within a browser without having to install software.

RealVNC provides remote control software which lets you see and interact with desktop applications across any network.

UltraVNC

UltraVNC is a powerful, easy to use and free software that can display the screen of another computer (via internet or network) on your own screen. UltraVNC runs under Windows operating systems (95, 98, Me, NT4, 2000, XP, 2003...). Its embedded Java Viewer allows you to connect (and make File transfers) from a simple Web Browser on any Operating system supporting Java (Linux, Mac OS...) to an UltraVNC server.

SingleClick Addon for UltraVNC

If you have a router that does NAT (Network Address Translation) and your UltraVNC viewer and server are on different sides of the router, you won't be able to establish an UltraVNC connection without some additional configuration. UltraVNC SC (SingleClick) is a customizable mini UltraVNC server for download. This is very convenient for help desk support because the customer doesn't need any preinstalled remote control software. Just have him or her download UltraVNC SC and start remote controlling. At the end of the remote control session UltraVNC SC deinstalls itself and leaves the computer without additional software.

Chicken of the VNC

Chicken of the VNC is a VNC client for Mac OS X. A VNC client allows one to display and interact with a remote computer screen. In other words, you can use Chicken of the VNC to interact with a remote computer as though it's right next to you.

Microsoft's Remote Desktop

  • remote logins are a separate user session

Microsoft has intentionally limited Remote Desktop to only one active Remote Desktop session under XP, and two sessions under Windows 2003/2000 server.

Terminals: A Tabbed Remote Desktop and VNC Client for Windows

  • Microsoft Shared Source Community License (MS-CL)
  • WEB SITE

Terminals gives you tabbed remote desktop capabilities. Not only can you do Remote Desktop, but you can use VNC or even Citrix if you choose, and all within the same tabbed window. Terminals is a secure, multi tab terminal services/remote desktop client. It uses Terminal Services ActiveX Client (mstscax.dll). The project started from the need of controlling multiple connections simultaneously. It is a complete replacement for the mstsc.exe (Terminal Services) client.
