Software Defined Radio (SDR) uses radio hardware connected to a computer that serves as the entire signal handling and processing component of the receiver. A basic SDR system consists of a computer equipped with soundboard attached to a radio receiver. SDR units can be designed to receive and transmit. A basic SDR involves an analog-to-digital conversion chip connected to an antenna.
A lot more SDR radio equipment is becoming available today and at lower prices.
