Stations running excessive illegal power levels on Citizen Band channel 6 at 27.025MHz are said to be participating in the Super Bowl. Runner up to channel 6 is channel 11 at 27.085 which is also dominated by high power skip shooters.
According to Carolina Thunder, "10 thousand watts would be considered a small radio on ch 6. Most of the heavy hitters run in excess of 100 thousand watts! When these guys say they are WORLD WIDE its because they have been heard around the world." This claim of 100,000 watts is an exaggeration, however, there are some heavy hitters on this frequency. With this in mind, confirmed reports of contacts being made with Super Bowl regulars from stations at 200 - 500 watts has occurred on a frequent basis.
"Channel 6 is known as the superbowl channel. "
dan_blather posted, " I know it's the "Superbowl", dominated by African-Americans running high-powered liners. Driving through the 'hood of any large city, I'll spot the occasional 1970s/1980s Cadillac/Buick/Oldsmobile or van sporting huge whips." His statement is not intended to be racial. The source interviewed for this article is an occasional channel 6 operator that is white. No matter what race the super bowl operator is, they all sound the same so you can't necessarily know just by their voice and slang.
"They're also some of the last remaining CB hobbyists. "
- Listen: Citizens Band Radio Channel 6 via Broadcastify streaming from US > New Jersey > Monmouth (County) [New York City]
Have Some Fun! - Turn on that linear amplifier and key down on da Super Bowl whilst listening to the Broadcastify stream. Find out if you can hear yourself. Make some noise, get down, look for conditions, waiving wide and to the side, com'on. While you are doing this, be very repetitive. Say the same thing over and over again. Pick a 3 digit number and say it over and over again. Talk loudly. Turn the microphone gain as high as it will go.
Skip Shooter Channels
According to this source, "If you are trying to make a contact on AM some popular channels for skip talking are channel 6, 11, 14, 17, 19, 26, 28 and 30. Of these channels the most popular by far are channel 6 (also referred to as “The Superbowl”), 17 and 19. "
"if you have a SSB radio you’ll find that the majority of skip within the U.S. [...] will occur on lower sideband (LSB) on the following channels – 35, 36, 37, 38, & 40 with the majority of people running on 36 and 38. Channel 38 is [...] the nationwide call channel for SSB skip."
