Logical Hard Drive Failure
Logical Hard Drive Failure is one of the three primary types of Hard Drive Failure for Personal Computer hard disk drives. A Logical failure is less severe than a Physical Hard Drive Failure. The level of logical failure may vary from simple file deletion, curable through simple hard disk recovery software, to serious file system corruption, which may require advanced utilities.
Data Recovery From a Failing Hard Drive is more likely and less complicated when logical hard drive failure occurs as opposed to a drive having physical or mechanical failure. There are many software tools capable of recovering data from a drive with logical errors.
The Check Disk Utility (CHKDSK) is a Window application that lets you scan your hard drive for errors. Using this utility with the "fix" flag is not recommended as your first step if you are concerned about recovering critical data. After you have recovered critical data, then use "chkdsk /f". (f) tells chkdsk to fix errors on disk, (r) tells chkdsk to both fix errors on disk and locate bad sectors and recover readable information. [ chkdsk /r ]
