com.vcast.mediamanager has stopped unexpectedly

The error message that is display constantly:

The application Backup+
Media (process com.vcast.
mediamanager) has stopped
unexpectedly. Please try
again.

Culprit: Verizon Backup+ Media - this is a premium service (costs extra) that backs up your phone data, pictures, and email to the Verizon cloud. You pay for storage. Backup+ Media is not the same as Verizon Backup Assistant. Verizon Backup Assistant is not a premium service, and there is no additional charge for using Backup Assistant. Backup+ Media will backup a wide variety of things on your phone, whereas Backup Assistant is for backing up your contacts. Verizon Backup+ Media != Verizon Backup Assistant

Some people that do not pay for nor use Verizon Backup+ Media are experiencing this error. Backup+ Media is running without login credentials and therefore continues to crash, then become reactivated by the Verizon system.

Solution:

  1. From the phone home screen goto Settings -> Applications -> Running services and tap the "Running" tab.
  2. Look for a red icon labeled "Backup+ Media" and choose "Force Stop"
  3. Tap the "All" tab. Find "Backup+ Media" and tap to open interface
  4. In "Backup+ Media" interface tap "Clear cache" then "Clear data"

As long as you had not previously subscribed to Backup+ Media premium service, this should resolve the popup error message. Backup+ Media is one of many preinstalled Verizon applications that cannot be removed unless you root / jailbreak your Android device.
