K-9 Mail
K-9 Mail is an open-source e-mail client with search, IMAP push email, multi-folder sync, flagging, filing, signatures, bcc-self, PGP, mail on SD & more!
K-9 supports IMAP, POP3 and Exchange 2003/2007 (with WebDAV).
Google's default Android email app is very limited. Instead you should use K-9 for your Android email client. K-9 is highly functional and well-maintained. K-9 supports IMAP IDLE for push messaging. It also gives the user fine-grained control over push and polling message retrieval behavior, with various configuration options that can be set per account and per folder. It also gives you a bit more control over notifications, including the option to have a separate notification tone for each account.
The K-9 message list view is configurable to show a short excerpt of the message text. You can also hide the selection checkboxes and the star icon that is used to mark favorite messages. You can individually adjust the font size. K-9 has themes.
K-9 does everything that Google's lousy default mail app should do.
