1986 Corvette Hatchback Coupe

The 1986 C4 Corvette was the first to offer a third brake light, antilock brakes, electronic climate control, and key-code anti-theft system. This corvette had the 5.7 L (350 cu in) L98 V8 engine, producing 230 hp and 330 ft lbs of torque.

Service

Replace Battery

  • Disconnect Negative battery cable.
  • Disconnect Positive battery cable.
  • Remove battery hold down clamp.
  • Follow "Fender Reposition" graphic (below) for battery removal.
  • Lift battery up and out of vehicle.
  • Reverse this procedure to install.
  • Torque battery cables to 19lb/ft.

  • On the 86 Corvette A and B screws are Torx size T30.
  • Remove (D) and loosen (E) with 10mm hex wrench.

Rather than trying to slide the panel rearward such as the illustration suggests, just pull it off and out of the way. It will not slide rearward without breaking.

Bolt (E) only needs to be loosened rather than removed. There is a slot in the panel that allows it to slide from the bolt once the bolt is loose.
