Indiana Pwns Exploit

Revision as of 02:41, 23 January 2011 by Admin (Talk | contribs)

Indiana Pwns is an exploit for the purpose of Softmodding (Software Modification) your Wii so that you can install the Homebrew Channel on a Wii with the System Menu version 4.3 or below. This allows you to modify the factory software on a Nintendo Wii game console. It is done by playing a hacked game save for LEGO Indiana Jones which executes a homebrew application from an external SD card. The Indiana Pwns hack was created by a group known as Team Twiizers.

Preparation

Recommendations

  • Never Ever Ever Update Your Wii From Nintendo
  • Read carefully Brick Prevention- Things you should never do
  • As opposed to following the bare bones guide below, it is recommended you use mauifrog's guide Softmod ANY Wii. People that follow this guide with careful attention have a very high rate of success. It is an exemplary guide. Use it. It is an up-to-date guide (12-17-2010 at 12:47 PM) Thank the author.

Process

This is a very bare bones description of the process. You will have to do some tweaking afterward to get everything working. It is recommended that you use the Softmod ANY Wii instead if this is your first time attempting to install Homebrew Channel.

  1. Copy the "private" directory from the Indiana Pwns download to the root of your SD card.
  2. Take your homebrew and put it in the ROOT of your SD card as "boot.elf".
  3. Set the archive bit for the data.bin file. In Windows
  4. Put your SD card in your Wii and turn it on.
  5. Go into Wii Options -> Data Management -> Save Data -> Wii.
  6. Go to SD card and select the "Indiana Pwns" save that corresponds to your game region.
  7. Copy the save to the Wii.
  8. Boot LEGO Indiana Jones.
  9. Load the saved game you just copied to the Wii.
  10. When the game loads, you will be in Barnett College. Walk to the Art Room (through the Courtyard), approach the left character on the podium. When it zooms on him, choose the switch to option (two silhouettes, staggered, with an arrow pointing between them).

Boot Mii

New Wii Consoles - You had to install BootMii via IOS rather than Boot2 (this makes sense to you if you've gotten this far)

  1. BootMii by going into The HBC and hit the "Home" button on your Wii Remote.
  2. Place your cursor onto the "Launch BootMii" selection and press A
  • Once you press A on your Wii Remote it will power off and be unusable.
  1. Use the Wii Console Buttons - power button is move cursor, reset button is select option
  2. back up your NAND memory
  1. Select the 4th option then hit A/Reset.
  2. Select the first option to back up NAND.
  • The first corresponds to the backing up of NAND memory, the second; "injecting" NAND back into memory.

Resources

  • Softmod ANY Wii - IMHO The best guide at this time (Jan 2011) for installing Homebrew Channel. Comprehensive, Complete, and Verified. Modded a Wii that previously had 4.0U.
  • CompleteSoftmodGuide - Page by page, step by step well illustrated guide to installing Homebrew Channel.
  • WiiHacks Newbie Discussion Forum - It is very useful to talk to others, people that have successfully done this before, and look through forum questions already asked which may help solve any problems you are having.
