K-9 Mail is an open-source e-mail client with search, IMAP push email, multi-folder sync, flagging, filing, signatures, bcc-self, PGP, mail on SD & more!

K-9 supports IMAP, POP3 and Exchange 2003/2007 (with WebDAV).

How to set up an IMAP account

In this example we will set up an imap account on a server with TLS on port 25. The user has an email alias she sends mail by that is different from her account username.

  • enter the email address: sara.smith@domain.net and use the account password |NEXT->|
  • for account type choose: IMAP |NEXT->|
  • enter username: ssmith |NEXT->|
  • SMTP server: mail.domain.net, security: STARTTLS (always) |NEXT->|
  • It will FAIL, now correct Port to: 25 |NEXT->|
  • for Account Options use defaults |NEXT->|
  • for Account Name leave blank, for Name Appears: Sara Smith |NEXT->|

How to use identities / aliases

To set up an alias in K9 mail:

  • Settings, Account Settings, Sending Mail, Manage identities - click settings button and choose "New Identity"
