Features include: Auto On-timer with 24 hour clock, 82 memories, VOX, backlit keypad, DTMF paging and extended receive (2M 130-174 MHz). It has an Automatic Tone Search which displays the incoming CTCSS frequency. Two VFOs are supplied for each band. Four transmit power levels are provided (up to 5W with optional battery).

production from 1992- 1998

Maximum power attainable depends upon the power resource being used, with the full five watts only being available while using the 12 volt pack, or an external 12 volt adapter delivering 1.5 amps.

Capable of full cross-band repeat

Lithium three volt CR1220 battery is in addition to the main power battery for the purpose of internal clock.

The FT-530 can listen for CTCSS / PL tones, and identify a tone that it receives.

Xmit power levels: ½ watt - 5 watts. Max power output with the 7.2 volt battery is 2 watts. A twelve volt battery or adapter (capable of at least 1.5 amps) is required for the full five watts.

Modern Ni-MH rechargeable batteries are available to replace the original limited models. It is possible to get 1000 mAh 12 volt battery packs, and 1800 mAh 7.2 volt packs from aftermarket companies. These will fit and charge just like the originals, but provide much more operating time.

The FT530 can be modified so that it can also be used on the GMRS / FRS frequencies. To modify, take off the battery pack, then remove the four screws on the bottom of radio, then remove four more around the back side parameter of the radio, three of which are on one side and a single on the other. There is a jumper pad in the lower right hand side of the PC board just opposite the flat cable. Locate pad 13 which is near the screw holding the PC board to the case.

  • Expanded Receive 110-180, 300-500 MHz
  • Expanded Transmit 130-180, 400-470 MHz

Recommended aftermarket accessory: FBA-12h: 10xAA battery case for Yaesu FT-530 etc. Handy for instant Hi-Watt power! Item Number: FBA-12h $28. Then use Enloop rechargables.

operation

The Yaesu FT-530 is a dual VFO transceiver with two full internal radios. They both are capable of receive on 110-180 MHz FM and AM and 300-500 MHz FM by either the A or B VFO or 41 programmable Channels. Both VFO A and B has an individual volume and squelch. They keypad and remaining controls are shared active on the Main Band.

  • Transmit is more limited. The FT-530 will transmit only VHF on the A VFO and only UHF on the B VFO. Transmit is in FM only.

select VFO frequency

Use band button to select side A or B. Enter frequency by Keypad; completed by entering 6 digits (no "enter" or decimal key). Tune VFO using up or down keys or DIAL. To tune in 1 MHz steps, push FM. To adjust tuning step, push FM then STEP. Select step using DIAL. Push STEP to set. To set repeater split, push FM, then RPT as appropriate for + & - offsets & simplex. To scan frequency, in VFO Mode push & hold up or down key for 1 second. Same deselects. To turn on AM ("A3") detector (to receive 110-136 MHz aircraft band; possible in VHF only), push FM - SET - FM - VFO - PTT. "A3 On" or "A3 Off" will appear in display. If not already active, turn on 110-130 MHz receiver section by holding in up & down keys while turning on power.

Memory channel mode

Push MR Memory Mode confirmed by numbers 1-38 or "U," "L," or "C" in display. Select channel using up or down keys, Dial, or channel number on Keypad followed by MR. To scan memory channels, push & hold up or down key for 1 second. PTT stops. To exclude a channel from memory scan, select it & push FM - SKIP. Same deselects. Memories are tunable. To tune a memory while in memory mode, push MR a second time.

Store frequency into memory channel

Select characteristics (frequency, offset, CTCSS tones, & AM or FM) in VFO Mode. Push & hold FM 1 second until second beep sounds & a number/letter blinks in upper left display. Within 5 seconds, select desired memory channel using up or down or Dial; then push FM again. Entry confirmed when channel number becomes steady & FT530 reverts to VFO Mode. To program Call Channel, select characteristics in VFO mode, push FM, then CALL.

Use Sub Channel

Push SUB to turn Sub-Channel on/off. Push ALT; Sub-Ch becomes Main (>). Tune as needed. OR, push FM - ALT to switch controls to sub-channel. Same reverses both. When sub-channel not used for dual reception, push FM - SET - FM - ALT; then repeat ALT to step through CLOCK, BATTERY VOLTAGE, & Off. Push SET to save selection.

Transmit Power Toggle

Push FM - LOW. Toggles between High & one Low setting. To select the Low setting, use Dial. (Display blinks, then unit turns off, when battery voltage goes below 5.5 V.)

Set Clock

To display, push FM - Clock. To set time while in the clock mode, push FM again & rotate Dial to correct time. MHz toggles between setting hours & minutes. Push Clock to return normal clock mode. Push Clock again to turn off clock display. To turn on alarm, push FM - Clock, then LOW. Set alarm time, then push FM (symbol ((o)) confirms). To silence alarm, push PTT. To cancel alarm, set time to 0.
