The Tavor X95 takes AR15 style magazines, and while most of them will work in the rifle, there are differing degrees of compatibility. In testing it was discovered that some of the aftermarket mags would not lock into the receiver correctly. When tested with Colt manufactured metallic magazines, one marked AR-15 and another with only the 5.56 designation, they locked into the receiver but were loose and had noticeable play. It is said that some specific brands that seem to work best are ASC, Magpul and Lancer. | The Tavor X95 takes AR15 style magazines, and while most of them will work in the rifle, there are differing degrees of compatibility. The IWI X95 is an Israeli bullpup rifle designed and produced by Israel Weapon Industries as part of the Tavor rifle family, along with the TAR-21 and the Tavor 7. IWI US offers the rifle in semi-automatic only configuration
New Features on the X95 XB16
- The new X95 now features an “M16” style Mag Release Button instead of the old SAR switch which made magazine changes unacceptably more difficult and time consuming.
- Shooters now have the ability to change out their pistol grip according to their personal preference simply by unscrewing the screw on the bottom of the pistol grip
- Relocation of the charging handle that is closer to the shooters center of mass
- Lower profile bolt release and enhanced rear receiver
- A forearm tactical rail system to accommodate accessories such as a flashlight
- And finally, a lighter trigger system (5-6 lbs.)
colors
- Black (XB16) - Black
- FDE (XFD16) - Flat Dark Earth earth-toned color resembling the soil and sand found in the desert
- OD Green (XG16) - Olive Drab military color, the basic U.S. Army dark olive green.

IWI recommends the Black Magpul PMAG Gen. M3 30 Round magazine for the 5.56 X95 as listed on their web site.
Recommendations When Purchasing
- make sure you get a late model with .300BLK recoil mechanism
- 16" barrel with 30rnd mag. XB16, XFD16, XG16
- get the 9mm and .300 Blackout Conversion Kits
Note: Although the new .300 Blackout is considered better for hunting, there is the danger of a shooter getting mixed up and chambering the cartridge in a rifle configured for 5.56 and resulting in injury. The 5.56 is better for longer range shooting but has less stopping power for medium to large game.
