Analog C-Band

PLEASE NOTE: As of Aug 1, 2007, most channels will have moved to 4DTV and a 4DTV receiver is required to receive them except for these four channels that are still available on analog c-band after Aug 1: CNN/Headline News, TBS, TNT and The Weather Channel.

4DTV

When purchasing 4DTV receivers and equipment, use caution so that you do not get taken advantage of. Here is some helpful information.

  • Know the Unit ID number schema. Correct unit ID numbers run in the rage 00-12EF-XXXX-XX to 00-12F5-XXXX-XX, always beginning with two zeros and a dash.
  • If you observe a unit ID such as 00-AE24-06FE-00 then be aware it is a bad ID number. A receiver with this ID will be unable to receive digital broadcasts because these units have a bad internal battery.
  • Obtain the digital Unit ID number from the seller. You can use that number when you contact any satellite provider to verify that it is a good Unit ID.
  • There is no such thing as a Motorola DSR-920. This is an older model made prior to Motorola acquiring General Instruments. The older model lacks capabilities available in the newer models and is worth less money.
  • There is no such thing as a General Instruments DSR-905 sidecar. Those were made by Motorola only.
  • There are model DSR-922's made by General Instruments and later made my Motorola. The later models say "Motorola" on them and are worth more because they are newer. If someone advertises "General Instruments / Motorola" they are being misleading. They probably have an older 922 made prior to the Motorola acquisition. The newer Motorola 922 models are worth more.
  • Be aware that some dishonest sellers have actually been caught switching the front door plate on a model DSR-922, replacing the one labeled General Instrument with one labeled Motorola so that they could get more money for the unit. This is illegal. Report the seller to the proper authorities.
