IKS Technology Progression:

  • iHub: already phased out
  • Newlink: replacement to iHub, probably near end of life
  • SVLan: successor to Newlink and iHub, currently being supported by the major vendors.

From the Receiver to Your Router

When the IHub was introduced, it provided a way to connect some FTA satellite receivers to the Internet via your router and an Ethernet cable. Since then the IHub has been retired.

Newlink was another method introduced after the IHub.

Currently, SVLan is the method being used to connect your FTA receiver to the Internet.

SV Lan upgrade for the IHub

You won't need to worry about this unless you have been using an IHub, or Newlink, and now wish to upgrade to SVLan. The SV Lan upgrade is a serial number that is emailed to you.

You can use SVLan to get on Akai Japan's Premium Public Server for a total cost of about $40.00.

Buying a new SVLan Adapter

A new SV Lan adapter already includes the serial number on it's silver sticker and runs about $60.00 on coolsatellite.com .

If you buy one of several new FTA receivers on coolsatellite.com it will include a SV Lan adapter with serial.

The Sonicview SV-360 Premier is a low cost FTA receiver that works well with SV Lan.

SVLan Setup

1. The Hardware: The hardware is the LAN adapter for the receiver and it is IDENTICAL for the adapters sold as iHub, NewLink or the current SVLAN. You MUST have one of these adapter to enable your receiver to connect to a server.

2. The Software: The software that runs on the LAN Adapter, the FIRMWARE, is what actually makes the LAN adapter act as an iHub, NewLink or SVLAN.

Instructions:

  1. LAN Adapter (whatever firmware, iHub/Newlink/SVLAN). If you buy an adapter, it is sold under the name SVLAN because it's already at SVLAN firmware level, so you can skip Step 2 below.
  2. Update LAN adapter firmware to latest SVLAN Level v4.8
  3. Purchase either:
  1. SVLAN a Serial Number via internet seller to enable access Akai Public Server -or-
  2. b) Access to a 3rd Party Public Server
  1. Enter SN and/or other provided information into your receiver IPCONFIG section.

IKS Server Type, Public vs Private

  • Public server: free to all receiver users
  • Public pay server: anyone can join for a price
  • Private server: small group, not listed on a search, only members know (you won't find them)
