PRL (Preferred Roaming List) - An internal database that the phone uses to determine where Verizon has agreements with other providers while you are roaming in areas where Verizon owned towers are unavailable. The phone will stay on the Verizon Wireless network when possible, and then roam on preferred networks according to price and agreements.
3G Verizon Devices and older
Dial *228 to update roaming capabilities prior to travel or on a monthly basis.
4G LTE Devices
You don't update the Preferred Roaming List on 4G phones by dialing *228. The device will update automatically throughout the month.
If you wish to force an update, power down the phone. Wait a minute. Power the phone back on. The SIM card will receive an update.
You can dial *22899 to verify device network connectivity. This will not work on all devices. Dialing this will NOT update roaming capabilities. Use the power cycle method to update the roaming capabilities.
