How to Shrink a Windows 10 Partition

The tool used for shrinking Windows partitions is "Disk Management".

Prepare OS for Defragmentation. Disable the Page File (Swap File).

  1. Start -> Run -> "sysdm.cpl"
  2. Advanced Tab
  3. Performance Section -> Settings
  4. Advanced Tab
  5. Virtual memory Section -> Change
  6. Select the "No paging file"

Disable System Protection

  1. Start -> Run -> "sysdm.cpl"
  2. System Protection Tab
  3. Select the drive you want to shrink in the Protection Settings section
  4. Click "Configure"
  5. Select the "Turn off system protection"

Defrag the Hard Drive

  1. Run a cmd shell as administrator
  2. use the defrag command like this "defrag /u /X c:"

Shrink the Windows Partition

To start "Disk Management", right click on the Windows start button in the bottom left corner of the screen and click on the "Disk Management" option.
