Ritron has manufactured and currently manufacturers a line of wireless intercoms known as the Ritrom Jobcom Base Station or Ritron Jobcom Wireless Intercom. One such example in the series is the Ritron JBS-446D Jobcom Base Station/Wireless Intercom (UHF). The units are advertised as Jobcom Jobsite Communications devices.

These units are field programmable which means that no software or data programming cable is needed. The unit is programmed via a sequence of button presses from the unit console. These units have 2W of transmit power. They are of high quality in that they are set with precise deviation and frequency calibration. They are also well constructed durable devices.

The units are multi channel, with 2, 8, and 10 channel models which seem to be common. Some models operate VHF and others UHF. They are designed for stationary use in a specific area, such as a reception desk or in a shop. The Jobcom can be mounted to a desk or wall for secure operation to reduce or eliminate the costs typically incurred from the replacement of lost, dropped or stolen portable handheld two way radios.

Models support both license free MURS and business only pre-programmed frequencies. Each unit has a 1w speaker for easy to hear audio output. Other standard features include 51 Quiet Call (privacy) codes, Channel Scan, Call Tone, DTMF ANI ENcode, 2-Tone Paging Decode, Programmable Soft Key. Some Jobcoms have an easy to read LED display.

  • Please note that there are also Ritrom Jobcom HT units such as the JMX-152 and JMX-452 which are not base stations

Known Models

Ritron currently divides their models into the Jobcom JBS Series and the Patriot PBS Series. The Patriot series (PBS) is intended for conventional simplex radio systems, in-plant, campus or community repeater systems, and UHF LTR Trunked radio systems.

In the current production models the JBS series does not work with trunked systems. It is believed that prior to the introduction of the Patriot series, certain Jobcom labeled models were compatible with trunked systems and that the Patriot label was later introduced to help distinguish capabilities.

This is an incomplete list.

  • JBS-446D ... 10 channel UHF model with LED display.
  • BS-146
  • JBS-146-A
  • JBS-446
  • JBS-446-A
  • PBS-146

Programming

You do NOT use programming software nor a special cable. Programming is performed from the stand alone unit itself. You cannot enter a custom frequency. You must select a frequency from a preset table of available frequencies.

Some models have a "Z" button. The Z button is a programmable softkey meaning it can be set to do the function you choose such as quick access to specific programmable radio features e.g. Call Tone, DTMF Encode, (Two-Tone Encode coming soon), NOAA Weather Scan, Channel Monitor, Channel Scan.

UHF Trunking

The new Patriot series supports trunked radio systems; UHF Trunking (LTR or PassPort protocols) version.
