Windows 7 Activation Technologies (WAT) – (KB971033)

Checks to verify if the Windows 7 installation is legitimate or pirated.

It's called "Update for Windows 7 for x64-based systems (KB971033)". The description says: "This update to Windows Activation Technologies detects activation exploits and tampering to key Windows system files. These exploits try to bypass regular Windows activation and are sometimes included within counterfeit copies of Windows."

The release of Windows 7 "Update for Microsoft Windows (KB971033)" will change the current activation and anti-piracy behavior of Windows 7 by triggering automatic "phone home" operations over the Internet to Microsoft servers, typically for now at intervals of around 90 days.

Windows 7 Activation Technologies (WAT) supersedes Windows Genuine Advantage. The update will determine whether Windows 7 installed on a PC is genuine.

It is NOT necessary.

It can result in a false positive.

It is recommended you do not install KB971033.
