WordPerfect
Word processing software application for desktop computers. It was once the most popular word processing software on the PC computer market after it overtook WordStar in the 1980s. Initially developed in the last 1970s WordPerfect for MSDOS was introduced in 1982. WordPerfect version 5.1 was introduced in 1989 and dominated the market.
Satellite Software's WordPerfect 4.X series supplanted WordStar as the most popular word processor, based largely on its macro capabilities, "reveal codes" feature, and the company's reputation for high-quality free support. But WordPerfect was late with its first Windows version, and then the bundling of Word with Microsoft Office on many PCs resulted in WordPerfect's market share decline. WordPerfect simply became a victim of Microsoft monopolistic practices.
The first WYSIWYG version of WordPerfect was WordPerfect 6.0 for DOS, released in 1993 and it also offered the traditional text interface as well.
