This is a list of known CCTV software that runs on a standard PC, under operating systems such as Microsoft Windows or Linux. Software designed for USB web cams is NOT listed here. This list of software covers single and multiport video capture cards designed for CCTV applications.

The CCTV Computer System Research page contains information on assisting with building a system. The Pico Install Instructions 4 Port CCTV DVR Card deals with what is perhaps the least expensive / most affordable CCTV multiport video capture card available on the market. Cabling the cameras is a critical part of your CCTV system, the CCTV Video Signal Transmission Options page discusses proper camera wiring.

There is a wide range of Fixed Lens CCTV Cameras available on the market. The software on this page is designed to work with any of these cameras. CCTV Installation Information covers cameras and wiring during the install process.

The Pico 2000 / Peaqe

  • Windows 2000/XP
  • NTSC and PAL
  • Up to 16 cameras
  • Motion detection

This Devil's version of Pico2000, or "Peaqe" is illegitimate software distributed with certain budget CCTV cards. More information on the software can be found on the Pico Install Instructions 4 Port CCTV DVR Card page.

Pico 2000 Production Version 1.9

  • Windows 2000/XP

ZoneMinder CCTV Camera Monitoring Software

  • Linux
  • NTSC and PAL
  • 16 cameras (or more)
  • Motion detection

ZoneMinder is a set of free applications intended for use in CCTV video camera security applications. It supports capture, analyse, recording and monitoring of any cameras you have attached to a Linux based machine. It also features a user-friendly Web interface which allows viewing, archival, review, and deletion of images and movies captured by the cameras.

DICO800

  • Windows 2000/XP

An alternative to PICO 2000, however, no longer developed nor supported. The legacy version available for free supports only 4 cctv cameras.

SupervisionCam

Gotcha!

i-Catcher Console

  • Windows 2000/XP
  • NTSC and PAL
  • 18 cameras (or more)
  • Motion detection

Very Expensive. Up to $1000 for over 16 cameras. Although the vendor supplies software for both proper CCTV systems and web cam systems, the i-Catcher Console software is specifically for proper CCTV systems. i-Catcher Console 3 provides a complete scalable CCTV system, with motion detection, alerting, remote web interface, simultaneous record & playback, scheduled activity, device control, and flexible display options.

Active WebCam

  • Microsoft Windows XP, 2003, Vista
  • 16 cameras (or more)

Active WebCam captures images up to 30 frames per second from any video device including USB, analog cameras, TV-boards, camcorders, and from network IP cameras. The program performs simultaneous recording and broadcasting from unlimited number of cameras.

Works with the btwincap driver from sourceforge by selecting the BT8XXX card with 4 composite input.

Argus Surveillance DVR

The program has been designed as universal software for security hybrid platforms working simultaneously with wireless and wired IP cameras, TV-boards, capture cards, power-line, and USB cameras. It has web interface with the same look and functionality on the local and remote computers. Users watch MPEG-4 coded video and have full control of the program through network that surveillance computer can be operated with no monitor, keyboard, and mouse connected. Program's modular structure significantly increases reliability because all modules act as independent applications. If one module fails, other modules continue running. For example if the "capture" module freezes, "watchdog" restarts it immediately that viewers don't notice anything because they are watching video using a "playback" module. The program performs "cyclic" recording that the "disk full" situation never occurs. The recording can be non-stop or it can be activated by motion, audio activity, sensor, or by schedule. Has pre-alarm and post-alarm recording. Playing back recorded video is pretty simple and performs on the surveillance computer as well as on remote computer through Web interface. The program performs synchronized video playback for event analysis from multiple cameras simultaneously. Also recorded data can be searched by date, time or by sensor event. All recorded data can be encrypted and password protected.

LuxRiot

Very expensive.
