Rogue Antivirus- a fake anti-virus program that looks real, however, it does not properly scan, finding real malware but is designed as a fake program to literally bribe users to buy the artificial program while crippling the system's performance. If the rogue ware installs properly it prompts the user to register the product with an average cost of $50-$100 dollars. 'A month later the software announces it has been sold to a new company and one must purchase the new software', a typical shell-game by cybercriminals.

ScareWare- software that attempts to "scare" people into purchasing fake antivirus programs.
