Google claims that KitKat "secures" the SD card. This securing likely breaks most apps trying to use it. Some apps seem to be able to create folders and copy files to the card, but after a few hours all the changes disappear. ES File Explorer is also unable to do any file management function on SD card. Astro File Explorer will display a popup window saying "SDcard is readonly due to Google and Android design".
