There is a great deal more flexibility when building a PC based CCTV system as opposed to a [[Standalone CCTV DVR System]]. When you build your PC DVR you will be responsible for the hardware such as the capture cards and the software that will run on the operating system you select. Most Standalone DVR systems have a Linux embedded and a version of zoneminder.
