NMO is more popular in [[Land Mobile Radio]].  This antenna connector uses a 3/4" (19mm) mounting hole and has a large base with a 1-1/8" - 18 TPI (threads per inch) thread for attaching the antenna. There are a large number of antennas that are built to utilize this type of mount.   [[File:NMOAntennaConnector.gif]] The NMO mount tends to be stronger and less difficult to "water proof" than alternatives such as SO-239.  The UHF (SO-239) connector was not originally intended to be a direct to antenna connector or mobile application.  NMO, on the other hand, was designed for mobile application.  If you unscrew the antenna on a police car you will see an NMO mount.  Most NMO mounts use 3/4" mounting holes, but some manufacturers offer them in a 3/8" variation.  [[Category:HAM Radio]][[Category:Ham Radio]]
