==== Windows Local Area Connection Properties GUI Interface ====Press the '''Windows Key + R''' and in the text field type: ncpa.cplRight click on the correct network interface icon and click "Properties."Uncheck "Internet Protocol Version 6″ and click on "OK"==== Windows Registry Editor Modification Procedure ====MS Utilities:If you want to see how the key entry would appear in a reg file:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929852Disabling IPv6 might be a good idea, because the protocol consumes additional CPU time and system memory as well as bandwidth. Of course the resource usage of an internet protocol is pretty low, but why would you waste resources for 2 internet protocols, 1 is already enough. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\TCPIP6\Parameters] “DisabledComponents”=dword:ffffffffEnabling another internet protocol might also increase your vulnerability to possible exploits. If there is going to be an IPv6 exploit and you are only using IPv4, you won’t be affected.  If you are familiar with creating text reg files you can use this method as an alternative to manually opening regedit.exe and creating a key.Disable IPv6 for tunnel adapter & interfaces=== Option 2: Disable IPv6 via Downloadable Utility ===If you are not familiar with editing the registry, I created a .reg file for you that you can use to add the registry key and disable IPv6. To verify that this file is ok, open it with a notepad once, it only includes the following lines:Microsoft provides a file called: MicrosoftFixit50409.msi    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00Running that program will disable IPv6. It is available from Microsoft.com.  The folks at Microsoft move stuff around on their web site more than Walmart moves store items.  Last we knew the link was here:* [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929852 Automatically disable or re-enable IPv6 or its components] Knowledge Base ID: 929852    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\TCPIP6\Parameters]Windows Versions: Vista (and some later versions).  DOES NOT APPLY TO XP.    “DisabledComponents”=dword:ffffffffhttp://windows7themes.net/en-us/disable-ipv6-windows-7/They offer utilities to do all of the following:* Disable IPv6 * Prefer IPv4 over IPv6 in prefix policies * Disable IPv6 on all nontunnel interfaces * Disable IPv6 on all tunnel interfaces * Disable IPv6 on nontunnel interfaces (except the loopback) and on IPv6 tunnel interface === Option 2: Disable IPv6 via Downloadable Utility ===* Re-enable IPv6 * Prefer IPv6 over IPv4 in prefix policies * Re-enable IPv6 on all nontunnel interfaces * Re-enable IPv6 on all tunnel interfaces * Re-enable IPv6 on nontunnel interfaces and on IPv6 tunnel interfaces
