update from rogero CFW to a modern CFW

Hi

I have been out of this for many many years think 6 years now and have not kept up with all of the developments.

My PS3 is on OFW 3.55 Rogero V4.46 V1.00. (CEX)

I found that to play the later games i need to update the CFW to the latest version. Obviously not wanting to screw this up I am looking for a guide on how to do this safely again. This guide only talks about 4.82 which confuses me.

What do i need to do to update to one of the latest Rebugs like 4.84?

Also is Rebug currently the best CFW or should i look at something else?

Can i just install this over the Rogero or would i screw this up like that? Do i need to update to a later OFW? (e.g. 4.82) but i can't imagine that's right

I'm pretty sure I have CEX but the Rebugs are CEX/DEX?

For example i am reading this From XMB install REBUG 4.21.x AND HIGHER over any 3.55 OFW/CFW/MFW or the same or lower firmware version CFW with spkg sig check patched or any firmware version CFW with spkg sig check patched and QA enabled.

i completely forgot what "spkg sig check patched" is and how to do this???? and same for "QA enabled" what is it again and how to do this? This freaks me out a bit

Am also using Irisman V2.73-1 (mod) and a control fan utitlity 2.02 am sure there are better ones out by now but it's been great to keep my ps3 from overheating.

For example the latest MultiMan, is this still the best or should i look at something else?

Final questions:

what happens to my game saves? What do i need to do here again prior to updating CFW?

What happens to the games already on my PS3 internal drive, do they need to be reinstalled or will they continue to play? I guess they will continue to play but just double checking.

Would anyone be kind enough to guide through the steps so I don't screw up my PS3?

Very much appreciated

@NakedKoala I moved your post to a dedicated thread because you posted it in a tutorial to install 4.82 CFW. Is better this way :)

The installation of a modern 4.84 CFW doesnt needs any worry, you just need to install the PUP from USB and nothing will be screwed, all your files in the hdd stays

There is a thing you have not mentioned, but have you thought in replacing the internal hdd ?, because this looks a good timing to do it Or just for a sanity check, you could format (and scan) the hdd in PC to verify that is working fine

And another btw... do you remember if you ever registered your PS3, or/and a user in the PSN online servers ? (if you are not sure there is an easy way to find it, but im not going to explain it yet to make this short) Im asking it because incase your user never was registered.... then the import/export of savegames and trophies from the old hdd to the new hdd (incase you replace it or format it) is very easy Otherway (incase your user was registered), the transfer of savegames and trophies is a phantom pain in the zeroes

Btw... lot of time ago everybody was used to store the backup games inside the installation path of the backup managers so take a look at that before uninstalling irisman If you uninstall irisman with the games inside it... you are going to lost all games

Im telling all this because is good if you made a cleanup of everything... you know... is a big jump to a new firmware version so is better to uninstall everything (or format the hdd) and make a fresh start

Thank you for you help, i took the jump and updated to Rebug 484.2. Thankfully i had some time on my hands and also figured out how to unban my console and how to protect it in the future. It certainly was a bit of reading again. Trophies somehow downloaded when i got online again

the internal HD is still good, it's one of those Hybrid Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB. I didn't go for a clean install but it kept all my game saves regardless, uninstalled irisman too prior to seeing this but all seems to be fine all the games are still there thankfully. Using Multiman now and an external drive for all the other games.
