Linux is a free, open source operating system released on September 17, 1991, by Linus Torvalds. Although Linux is not the most secure, most stable, or absolute best for all purpose Operating Systems available, it is better than Microsoft Windows in almost every category. Linux is the best-known and most-used open source operating system.
