The base configuration comes with an Intel 2.0 GHz Celeron processor which is sufficient for most computer users, but lower than most of its competitors. the biggest drawback to the system is the normal capacity battery that ships with it to reduce costs also reduces its possible battery life. The other area that it lacks is the optical storage. It ships with a 24x CD-ROM drive. This laptop doesn't have built in WiFi.
Memory
Each memory slot can hold DDR PC2700 with a maximum of 512MB per slot.
Total Memory allowed for this model: 1024MB. Adding the maximum amount of memory will improve performance and help extend the useful life of your system as you run increasingly demanding software applications in the future.
They do not have to be in matching pairs. You can install modules one at a time, and you can mix different densities of modules in your computer. This computer does not support dual channel memory.
This system does not support ECC memory. ECC and non-ECC modules should not be mixed within a system, install the same type of modules that are already in your system.

Here's the reason some memory cards won't work in Dell's Inspiron 1100 and others will. Count how many chips are on the card. Divide the card's memory capacity by the number of chips. If the result is more than 32 MB, it won't work! The designers assumed that no chip on a memory card would ever have more than 32 MB.
If you have a 512 MB card with 8 chips on it, it will never work. The only ones that do work are the ones with 16 chips.

Other Memory Issues: Dell tech support advised to use PC2100, not PC2700. With a BIOS upgrade PC2700 may be used.
