The Sound of Radio

It’s “the sound of radio,” that FM radio stations used huge compressor/limiters to squash music to be very loud, so people would listen to their station over quieter music on another station. It was the first “loudness wars,” started back in the 1950’s/1960’s.

RNC compressor

I did try the Rolls sl33b also. The sound wasn't as good as the RNC. I was hoping it would be a 1/2 priced and smaller RNC with less knobs for my trainees to learn, but the audio sounded low quality. Hard to describe, sort of like an AM radio, for lack of a better way to describe it.
