Anything faster than dialup 56k Internet speed. Broadband is the transmission of wide bandwidth data over a high-speed internet connection. To be considered broadband an Internet connection must meet the FCC standard of being no less than 25 megabits download and 3 megabits upload. Technologies such as fiber optic, cable, and DSL are some examples of broadband Internet services. Add that to new emerging cellular and satellite technologies the availability of broadband is increasing to nearly global.

In telecommunications, broadband is wide bandwidth data transmission which transports multiple signals at a wide range of frequencies and Internet traffic types, that enables messages to be sent simultaneously, used in fast internet connections. The term became popularized through the 1990s as a marketing term for Internet access that was faster than dial-up access (dial-up being typically limited to a maximum of 56 kbit/s). This meaning is only distantly related to its original technical meaning.
