Krypton, or Kr on the periodic table, is one of the Noble Gases that make up the 8th column on the table. This element only comes in gas form, mainly found in the atmosphere. Krypton was discovered in Britain, by a man named William Ramsay, in 1898. The element would later be used for lighting, being the most notable among other things.

The atomic number of Krypton is 36, meaning it has 36 protons and electrons. Its atomic mass is approximately 83.80 u. Krypton has 48 neutrons, and it is labeled as Kr on the periodic table. Krypton is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that is not very reactive. It is extremely rare because it only forms when Uranium breaks down into the Earth’s crust.

Krypton is located in the 8th column, and in the 4th period on the table. It shares this column with Xenon, Helium, Argon, Neon, and Radon. Krypton is a non-metal, because it is a gaseous substance found in the upper atmosphere of the earth, so if it was a solid, it would not work as we use it. Krypton is only found once every 0.0001 million cm/3 of the atmosphere, which makes it really hard to obtain for things we are trying to create.

This element can be used for Medicinal treatments, gas filler in electric lights, flash lamps used in professional photography, and more. Krypton is considered a rare element due to its origin location and how little there is of it in the world. This is why it is expensive to buy ceiling bar lights, because of Krypton. Krypton is also found within the human body, inside blood cells. Fluorescent lights use Krypton gas as a filler for the inside to cut down on the energy it uses. In turn, it makes the light twice as bright and just a little more expensive for the buyer.

The best skill I learned from this activity is being persistent in research and focusing on the topic. The one fact about my element that amazed me the most was how you can integrate it into healthcare treatments. This assignment was not difficult, but if you were someone who was particularly lazy, then I guess it would be challenging. I did all of this on my own, on my own time, in my own room, with my own mind, and used my own eyes to see the information, I did not plagiarize either.
