This is a ham radio "net" specifically oriented to getting newly licensed individuals on the air and communicating with others in a non-judgmental, educational, and forgiving environment. Net control and operation will be conducted based on adherence to protocol convention for a formal net, however, said convention will be enforced on experienced operators only. This way new hams will not be intimidated by the process, yet will still be able to listen when it is put into practice.

No club affiliation will be promoted specifically for the purpose of neutrality. however, any club can be discussed in order to help new operators be aware of what clubs are available and where they can go to meet other ham operators.

Please read my MEMO HERE to learn more about the purpose of the net.

The TECH NET is currently in the discussion and planning stage. At this time it has been suggested that Thursday evening is a possible candidate for the net. It is possible that the net will go into operation at 8:00pm on Thursdays. NET CONTROL volunteers are needed.

All ham operators are welcome to participate. Ham operators with a Technician class license and have been licensed for one year or less will have priority access to the net, to communicate and ask questions. Experienced ham operators will serve more in the capacity to listen and answer questions, and help to kindly educate new operators in a friendly manner.

NET CONDUCT

The format of the net will be based on that used by Heartland Hams of Iowa. Their net at 7:00pm on Mondays using the following format when checking in:

  1. First say "Net Control" and let drop (release the microphone button)
  2. listen for a moment to see if it is clear (no one else is talking)
  3. State your CALL ID, Full Name, and Location (City + State)

All experienced ham operators will be required to conform to the convention.

NET CONTROL

Any experienced licensed operator can quality to be Net Control, without regards to ticket class. Net control would ideally have held license for a minimum of one year, however, exceptions can be made.
