Composite video requires 3 separate cables for the video signal. If any one of these cables is faulty then the color may be off, black and white, or the video completely absent. The cable is typically blamed for issues such as an image with a strong reddish or pink tint. However, the cable is not always the culprit. Having verified that the cable is good, and that the display settings including color temperature and balance are correct on the monitor, few think to consider that the issue might be with a setting within the video device (often a DVD player) itself.

When connecting your DVD player to your TV via the Component jacks, the Video Output in the Setup Menu must be set to Component (Iscan or Pscan). The screen will be RED if Video Out is set incorrectly to S-Video.
