Gateway 2000 Anykey Keyboard

Although an advanced keyboard for its day, circa 1995, the mushy key press lacked tactile response and made speed typing difficult.

Review

Originally this keyboard had a Control key on both the right and left side. The revised Windows 95 version of the Anykey keyboard added windows keys and replaced the right Control key with a Windows shell menu key. This leads to confusion for traditional keyboard users seeking to strike the Control key with the right hand finger. Other criticisms are with the placement of an additional space key in the center of the arrow keys, diagonal arrow keys which send dual control codes for two directions that clutter up the arrow key area, and a slow repeat rate for keys such as the space, backspace, and arrow. The keys are also squishy with poor sensory and an annoying tendency to sometimes register multiple strikes on a single press of a character. The keyboard limits the input rate ability of fast typists.
