RPM (Redhat Package Manager) is a command line driven package management system capable of installing, uninstalling, verifying, querying, and updating computer software packages. RPM is a core component of many Linux distributions, such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux, the Fedora Project, CentOS, SUSE Linux Enterprise, openSUSE, Mandrake, Meego, Mageia and many others.
APT (Advanced Packaging Tool) was originally a front-end for dpkg to work with Debian's .deb packages. Apt is a collection of Package Management tools that works with core libraries to handle the installation and removal of software on the Debian GNU/Linux distribution and variants, including Ubuntu, Linux Mint, and Knoppix.
