In January 2022, Meta renamed the Oculus Quest 2 headset to the Meta Quest 2. The hardware itself remains the same. The device is a standalone virtual reality (VR) headset developed by Facebook Technologies, offering users an immersive gaming and entertainment experience without the need for a separate PC or console. Released in 2020, it features high-resolution displays, built-in sensors for inside-out tracking, and intuitive controllers, allowing users to move freely within virtual environments. With its affordable price point and growing library of games and experiences, the Quest 2 has become a popular choice for both VR enthusiasts and casual users looking to explore the possibilities of virtual reality technology.

Features and Specifications

The Oculus Quest uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 system-on-chip (SoC) with 4 GB of RAM. Three of the four 2.3 GHz CPU cores of the chip are reserved for software, while the remaining core and its four lower-power cores are reserved for motion tracking and other background functions. It runs operating system software based on Android Open Source Project (AOSP) source code.

• Diamond Pentile OLED display is used for each eye, with an individual resolution of 1440 × 1600 and a refresh rate of 72 Hz.
• Supports positional tracking with six degrees of freedom
• Infrared diodes on the Oculus Touch controllers are tracked via four wide-angle cameras built into the front of the headset
• Passthrough ability to view a grayscale picture from the cameras when the player exits their defined playing area
• embedded speakers, as well as a pair of 3.5 mm audio jacks on each side for use with external headphones

The Oculus Quest uses second generation Oculus Touch controllers. Their designs were modified to accommodate Oculus Insight, with their tracking rings moved from the back of the controllers to their tops so that they can be tracked by the headset's cameras.

Factory Reset

Factory Resetting your Oculus/Meta Quest 2 Virtual Reality Headset

You may need to factory reset the Oculus Quest 2. An example would be if any file on the Quest 2 device is corrupted, a factory reset can perhaps be the simplest way to resolve the issue.

To enable a factory reset, you can either do it the manual or mobile way.

First, you need to make sure your data is backed up to the Cloud Storage to prevent loss of any game saves or data you may want to keep.

In your Quest 2 menu, go to your settings, go to backups, and make sure automatic Cloud backups is on.

If you have done this, you may proceed to the next steps.

Manual Reset Procedure:

• To do a manual factory reset, hold the volume button down and the power button, and wait for the headset to prompt you with a message asking if you want to perform a factory reset. Select Yes and continue.

Mobile Reset Procedure:

1. On the Meta Quest mobile app on a mobile device, go to your Feed, select your headset on the top, then a pop-up will appear.
2. Select your headset, in this case the Quest 2, and scroll down to Headset Settings.
3. Once you are there, select Advanced Settings, and go to Factory Reset.
4. From there, your mobile device will prompt you on whether you would like to reset or not. Since we are doing a reset, select continue.

Afterwards, your headset will automatically begin erasing all data on-board the device, and return to its default startup interactive page, where you will need to perform all actions and settings necessary to reach your home environment again. Once at your hub, you are able to re-install all previous applications and such.
