The following error appears in Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 and has been reported to appear in other versions of Windows including Windows 7 and 8.

People report this error after a reboot when first logging in to the Windows environment.

Nvsvc.dll is a Windows DLL file. DLL is the abbreviation for Dynamic Link Library. The software that is failing is part of the management utilities nVidia provides to modify some of the more advanced settings of the video adapter. The process known as NVIDIA Driver Helper Service. These are advanced settings that may not be in use. This error typically has no negative impact on system operation or performance other than requiring the user to manually dismiss the error by clicking the OK dialog after logging in.

Nvsvc.dll is located in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. The software is loaded during the Windows boot process.

Recommended Fix:

Uninstall and reinstall the NVidia Driver Software and Utilities. If this is a name brand computer such as a Dell, Gateway, Compaq / HP the drivers and software should be available from the manufacturer web site. Drivers and software are also available directly from NVidia.
