The iPhone compatible wiring convention has the sleeve wired for the microphone while the Nokia convention has the sleeve as the ground. The iPhone convention is more common.The iPhone compatible wiring convention has the sleeve wired for the microphone while the Nokia convention has the sleeve as the ground. Nokia was first and is more common on Android phones. Apple choose to ignore the existing convention and swap the microphone and ground.
